Nosotros loved this soup! Information technology's very easy to make, specially when y'all throw it all into the crockpot. I cooked it on high for ii hours then turned it down to low for another six...thanks for the great recipe!
09/25/2010
My family unit really, really liked this soup. We prefer a heartier soup so I added more veggies, barley, and a couple potatoes. I was a piddling nervous when I first tasted the broth, virtually xxx min into the simmering. Information technology was a tad bland. After reading a few reviews, I added a little garlic pulverization, onion pulverisation and more salt (I used Depression Sodium Beef Stock) and pepper and covered it back up and waited to taste it again after 1.five hours. Perfect! All the flavors had had a chance to develop and it was delicious. This volition be on the card this autumn and winter. Thanks for sharing!

I've made it excatly like the recipe and contradistinct. It was very good equally is only I think the changes I made go far even improve. Boil the beef goop. In a seperate basin add lean footing meat, 1 egg, 1/4 cup bread crumbs, a pinch of parsley, pepper, thyme. Brand mini meatballs (bitesize). Add meatballs to boiling goop. When they float they are done. Add together remaining ingredients and Add 1 Tin TOMATO SAUCE. Simmer for 2 hours. The original recipe lacked presentation. It was something I would make for myself as a condolement food. With the changes I made I would definatly serve to company!
04/22/2009
This was excellent and I had to change the recipe because I did not have any barley, ever take barley in the cupboard so I did non bank check...anyways I used a cup of brown rice in the concluding hour of cooking...it was great and had simply a fleck of bite to information technology. Come to find out my married man added a small pinch of crushed cherry pepper earlier I added the rice.
10/18/2010
I made this soup for Fri night dinner and information technology was excellent. I didn't modify the ingredients at all. The just matter I did differently was after browning the ground beef I took it out of the pot and poured out any grease. Then added a fiddling bit of olive oil and sauted the carrots, onion, celery and garlic for about five minutes to soften. And then added back in the footing beef and the residue of the ingredients. I love making soups in the autumn/winter and this one is a keeper. Thank you for sharing.
07/08/2009
This is a great recipe. I similar my vegetables a piffling chunky so I chopped the onions and carrots instead of minced. Other than that I followed the directions exactly. It is a squeamish thick and tasty soup. It as well freezes very well.
xi/10/2009
Oh then yummy! My Mexican husband raved! Instead of the can of diced tomatoes I used Ro-Tel diced tomatoes with cilantro and lime juice. I besides used all broth, no evidently water. Will make again and once again!
11/thirty/2010
Very good and comforting! I simply used ane pound of hamburger and sauteed the onion and garlic while it cooked. We adopt a chunkier soup so I cut the carrots & celery into bigger pieces instead of mincing them. I too bumped the barely up to 1 full cup. Definitely permit the soup simmer for the full amount of time. The flavors really come up together then. It does make a thicker soup, but we really liked it better that mode. This is great for cold winter nights!
xi/04/2010
This is a groovy soup for a dank evening or anytime that winter is getting you downwards. Other reviewers are right on with their comments nigh beingness able to add additional barley, other vegetables (sliced mushrooms for instance) and I used boosted fresh garlic cloves (minced) and these just added to the great season. This recipe is certainly i to keep and keep coming back to.
10/10/2009
This recipe for hamburger soup was awesome. I did make a few alterations to it. I love spices so I added rosemary, more bay leaves, and when I fry my hamburger up I always add celery seed and a dash of nutmeg. I also love barley so I increased the barley. I will totally make this recipe again and will recommend information technology to my friends too. Cheers!
01/20/2013
Great Soup, thanks for the recipe. Only changes I made was to add a little red wine to the soup and some frozen corn. Yum!
04/24/2010
This was Succulent! Even my son who is not a soup lover had seconds. I used 2 lbs. of ground beef, a big sweetness onion, doubled the carrots and celery, used homemade beefiness stock (Yum!), fresh garlic and omitted the tomato plant soup. I likewise added a heaping i/two cup of barley. Loved the addition of the barley. I will make this often. Thanks for the recipe.
10/29/2012
This is a new fall favorite!! I add more carrots & celery than it asks for & employ two pounds of hamburger to feed the hungry guys in my house.
01/05/2012
LOVED this...hearty soups are the best. Great condolement food and like shooting fish in a barrel, likewise. I did the mini-meatballs equally some suggested they added a lot to the presentation (be sure to spice the basis beef before making the meatballs). Superb recipe, thanks!
02/17/2013
I used all ingredients exactly as written and merely changed the cooking method to boring cooker. Splendid, hearty soup, only could use a bit of zero -- next fourth dimension I'll add a fleck of chopped jalapeno and perchance just a tad of salt. I might also try calculation a can of tuckered black beans. As for cooking, dark-brown your hamburger with the onion and garlic before putting in your deadening cooker, and then add together all the other ingredients. Cook on high for ii hours then depression for 6 more hours. Perfect!
09/27/2010
It's expert. I have Celiac so I couldn't add the barley, I added gluten complimentary macaroni instead. Other than that, I made it as is.
02/06/2012
Didn't accept barley and so added half cup of rice. Pretty tasty on crackers!
10/30/2010
This makes a LOT. I fabricated it in the crock pot and needed my six quart one. I chunked the veggies instead of mincing them. It simmered all day and made the kitchen smell swell. I didn't change whatever of the ingredients except for a little more basis beef. The family unit LOVED information technology. I do wish I had added a chip more barley considering I really like it. - Oh - and I used the lower sodium beef broth. I figure it'south always easier to add together table salt afterward than to take information technology out if it's too much for my taste.
04/22/2011
I made this several times this by wintertime and it's ever wonderful and comforting. Sometimes I add a handful of frozen peas, another tin can of diced tomatoes or 3/4 cup of barley. Such a versatile recipe, but super good no thing how you change information technology upwardly.
11/03/2011
I idea this tasted pretty skillful. I was surprised that it completely filled my dutch oven pot, simply I was able to get the chapeau on. I liked all of the different vegetables this had in information technology. I realized after I started making the recipe that I didn't have barley, and then I subbed an equal amount of uncooked rice. When it was washed I added some garlic and onion powder to taste. It was a hearty soup, as suggested. I ate it with some buttered flavored crackers. TY
01/02/2012
Excellent soup! Fun and easy to make. I subbed whole canned potatoes cut in one-half (added in the last 10 minutes merely to heat them up) for the celery because my hubby doesn't like celery. I added red pepper flakes and chili powder (to taste). We like things spicy! This reheats well too!
12/22/2011
I have made this recipe several times and my whole family loves it. My female parent has heart disease and is on a low sodium diet then I use ii cans of depression sodium beef broth and substitute water for the other tin. Those who can add common salt to taste but I actually like it every bit information technology is.
12/21/2011
Made this soup last night for dinner forth with some home fabricated bread and information technology was very skillful. I didn't have the condensed soup (not a big fan of the condensed soup taste in my food) and so I added an actress cup of water and virtually of a small tin can of tomato paste.
10/30/2011
I fabricated this soup in the crock pot. I used mushrooms, carrots, celery, onion and green beans. I browned the beef first of all before putting all the ingredients into the crock pot on low for eight hours. Unfortunately even after that time the vegetables were nonetheless hard, nice time I may partially cook the vegetables first of cook. I left this cooking overnight and nosotros had it for luncheon the next day. The actual gustatory modality was a little on the bland side, good thick soup only simply needs a little something else to boot it up a trivial!
02/24/2011
Added macaroni, because I didn't have barley. As well, merely one can of beef goop and extra water. and ii lbs of hamburger. This was really flavorful. Play with the recipe - it is hard to ruin.
xi/xxx/2011
This was a very good starter recipe. Unfortunately, I had assumed I had all the ingredients and realized I didn't as I was already committed. My substitutions, though, were very good! Instead of carrots and celery, I used a 16 oz. frozen pocketbook of peas and carrots. I increased the barley to iii/4 loving cup. For the beef broth, I used iv cups of water + 5 beefiness burgoo cubes. I was out of tomato soup, yet a can of plain tomato sauce did the trick. I eliminated the bay leaf, parsley, and time. Instead, I added garlic table salt and basil. When browning the footing beef, I added the onion (chunked) and minced, fresh garlic. Finally, I used my crock pot - an hour on high and then at least an hour or so on low. Everyone - fifty-fifty my choosy youngest - loved the results! This is a great recipe for a cold, dreary winter day.
09/08/2010
Great - added fresh corn. Will employ all broth, more barley and non quite every bit much Thyme next time. Peradventure some potatoes or kidney beans. Information technology is very versatile and you can adjust information technology every bit you please.
08/29/2009
This was wonderful!! My girl and I added extra barley, meat and used Italian diced tomatoes. I froze the left over (four days worth)soup simply my daughter kept request for it solar day after solar day. Guess I shouldn't have freezed it in the commencement identify:)
06/01/2009
This is a really adept recipe! Information technology makes alot of very hearty and thick soup! Thanks.
09/30/2010
I fabricated this for dinner concluding night and information technology was a HUGE hit. The simply thing I did different, is I put information technology in the crockpot to melt all 24-hour interval. Nifty yummy soup. I volition admittedly make this again.
04/23/2009
Groovy soup but I am not keen on bay leaf and so I only put in half of i and took information technology out early. Also I thinned it down with either V8 or tomato soup. Have fabricated it several times and froze what was left for afterwards. Worked just fine.
x/07/2010
I made this last night for dinner, we really enjoyed this soup. I didn't have barley so I used one-half a loving cup of instant rice. I will make again using the barley, but the recipe is a keeper.
04/28/2012
This soup is pretty good. Major benefit is that it is VERY filling with the beefiness and the barley. When I ate it for dejeuner (sans anything else), information technology would keep me total way past dinnertime. I used a small can of tomato paste rater than the condensed love apple soup, which has too many artificial ingredients for my sense of taste. Also, I used i lb of basis beefiness and that was a good ratio confronting the 1/2 cup barley.
02/19/2012
I thought this hamburger soup was very good. Simple to throw together for an easy dinner with salad and bread. I put this in the crock pot on loftier for virtually 5 hrs. I added some cumin, red pepper flakes and 4 beef boulion cubes because similar some other reviewers said it was a bit bland. I also added more barley than the recipe chosen for so I added a picayune more than beef stock. During the last couple hours of cooking I decided to throw in some frozen corn. Adding some extra spices gives information technology a nice flavor and the extra barley makes information technology a thick stew-soup.
03/03/2013
Making this for the 2d time as it was a huge hit with my family the first time. I believe I was short on barley the first time so I added in some quinoa about xxx minutes before it was washed. I concur with others that it is a very versatile soup. I would recollect you can add or sub just about whatever veggie and arrange spices to your liking. I have a house full of picky eaters and the fact that EVERYONE loved it....it'southward saying a lot. Thanks for sharing this 1!
06/02/2009
Oh my goodness this recipe brings back memories. When our girls were at abode it was i of our standbys and we all loved information technology. Did not utilize the barley, but that was a taste preference. Tin can be added to - very adaptable. Slap-up to run into it in impress and I might even arrive again.
09/28/2010
Made the soup as directed except for sub. lentils for the barley (wheat allergy), added tabasco at the tables~yum!
01/12/2010
The whole family really likes this one. The kids liked it better when I left out the tomato soup. I add together green beans, italian seasoning, and sometimes throw in a couple of handfuls of spinach the final few minutes of cooking.
02/nineteen/2012
I was looking for a tasteful, non too citric (v8), beef barley veggie soup. I take tried several recipes and this 1 is at the superlative of the listing. Thanks.
03/14/2010
A good base for making a great soup. I doubled the barley equally I like it and wanted a bit thicker 'stew'. This could exist modified in so many ways and withal taste delicious!
09/23/2010
What a wonderful soup! I made this to celebrate the first day of fall, and it was perfect. I followed the recipe with just a couple of pocket-sized exceptions. I added a bundle of Goya powdered carne boullion and a tablespoon of smoked paprika, and used some garlic & onion powder, common salt and pepper to taste. Served with fresh staff of life and butter. Thanks for sharing this recipe, sharilee. It'due south a keeper!
02/23/2010
Succulent! Reminded me of my mom'due south beef and veggie soup. I did not add barley considering I didn't have any, merely other than that I followed the recipe, and it was yummy. My hubby liked it also. Smashing for cold wintertime days. You could really add together an veggies that you like to it I believe. We had corn muffins with it. I recall next time I'll endeavor information technology with stew beef. Thanks for sharing it!
10/02/2013
Very good! This can be adapted a number of different ways. Only used i lb hamburger, low sodium beef goop, added more water and eliminated the tomato soup. Added a few potatoes and some sliced mushroom and frozen corn (needed to be used up). Used quick melt barley, so this was done in under ii hours. There is some chopping involved, but the time is well worth it! Will make information technology again!!
05/21/2011
Used less hamburger, more barley, cooked in slow cooker, otherwise as written. Pretty bland in a pasty sort of way; I think it was the lycopersicon esculentum soup that was the culprit.
07/30/2012
I desire to love this but thought it was overly acidic (maybe it'south the make I'm using? Hunts?) and processed-tasting. But it's loaded with with practiced veggies and I beloved the barley in there. I've made this co-ordinate to the recipe once and in one case with the meatball suggestion by Tracy and liked the meatballs better (the texture is much softer, less chewing needed merely then there is then much more than fat to get out which is abrasive afterward). Definitely great for the fall with a nice hunk of bread.
12/26/2009
This was piece of cake to brand and it was hearty, but in the end "just OK". Guests felt information technology tasted similar chili without the chili powder and I did find it somewhat bland. I followed the recipe every bit is the kickoff time, and so will peradventure try again adding more liquid and more spices.
12/21/2009
LOVE LOVE Beloved this soup! It was Then easy to make, the prep was fast and clean up a sinch!!! Information technology does demand to simmer for 2 hours so it'southward not really a "QUICK Meal" but information technology is a great repast for a snowy winter afternoon to make for the evening. The other thing I Honey about this recepie was that I fabricated some for my sis and her twin 12 mos. olds were able to swallow it when it was cool enough because all the veggies are shredded, the barley is soft and the meat is VERY chopped. Make information technology!!! You'll love it too!
07/11/2009
Belly filling and a smashing common cold weather dinner! When following this recipe, it does yield a lot but I seldom have leftovers. I serve it with honey cornbread.
07/25/2009
This was delicious! It turned out more like a stew, probably considering I added a tin can of green beans and corn. I omitted barley but added pocket-size pasta noodles. A lot of leftovers but it will be eaten this week for tiffin. I'll definitely make again peculiarly on a cold twenty-four hour period.
02/22/2010
Holy moo-cow! I'll be making this a lot!!! I did apply a little more barley. Since I'm trying to cut dorsum on sodium, I eliminated all the salt (used lower sodium beef stock & tomatoes), simply added some smoked chipotle sauce for season. YUM!!!
05/21/2012
I have had a soup like this one earlier and lost the recipe. It is very easy to set, uses ordinary ingredients that most of u.s. have at dwelling already and produces a large pot of hearty soup. I followed the directions carefully and was very satisfied with the result. This recipe tin can definitely feed a hungry family. I minced my vegetables and also added some larger chunks. I would not hesitate to add anything else that I similar: potatoes, peppers, etc.
02/15/2012
I accept made this soup three times in the concluding calendar month at present; I am addicted to it! I have made a couple of changes to it, yet. I besides add 1 lb. of mild sausage (like Bob Evans), I employ rice instead of barley (because that's what I have), increase the water a little and add ii cans of lycopersicon esculentum soup. My family loves this meal; I tin't become enough of it!
01/08/2011
My family unit loved this soup. It was particularly great because I almost always take these ingredients on-hand. I did not change the recipe, and served with cornbread muffins. The flavor is fifty-fifty better the next 24-hour interval.
09/27/2010
I've fabricated this three times already and can't believe I overlooked rating this recipe. It's merely delicious, making it again tonight!
02/xx/2013
wow, easy and super good. even my hubby liked it and he normally hates soups because they don't make full him up. i added a couple diced potatoes and replaced the tomato soup westward/ a pocket-size can of love apple paste b/c that's all i had. next fourth dimension i might add in some other random veggies, too. yum! glad in that location are leftovers for tomorrow!
02/09/2019
Definitely adding this equally a go-to recipe! I doubled the barley, and used small can of tomato paste instead of soup as I was out. Added a touch of onion and garlic powder every bit recommended, and doubled the thyme. Didn't have parsley or bay leaf and still turned out mouth watering.
12/11/2011
This is an splendid soup! I added worschestire sauce for actress flavour and a nuance of ruby wine. Also substituted parsley and thyme for itlian seasoning. Will be making this soup once again and once again!
01/25/2016
I take been making this soup for years. Have not plant a person who does not like it. Come the kickoff cold days in the autumn, everyone is asking for it. I also cut my vegetables into chunks, as this is the manner nosotros adopt it. I leave mine cooking on the stove for up to 4hrs, discover it has better flavor. Merely we detect it even better the next day!
07/27/2010
One of my favorite soups! I fabricated it for my husband when we were dating and he couldn't believe his taste buds. Mostly I utilize beer in identify of water (a night beer like Fat Tire; it's never the same 1) and Italian diced tomatoes. I employ onion pulverisation because I don't similar soft onions and always add some chili pulverisation. I've added potatoes before (turns out swell!) and generally increment the barley every bit well. I also increase the veggies and dice instead of mince.
12/xviii/2010
Ummm.... great condolement food. I accept been making a similar one for years known every bit "Hearty Homo Soup". The divergence: no tomato soup, no barley, no garlic, one tin beef broth, 3 c. water, and not all the herbs. I don't see the need to cook more than than 1 60 minutes. but I am e'er last minute and am trying to bustle things forth. We do biscuits or cornbread with this.... perfect!
eleven/22/2014
Loved this recipe. Took the suggestions and added some potatoes. Yum :-) would eat over and over once more
01/11/2012
Simple soup. Very yummy.
10/24/2010
Very bland, blah soup. Fabricated exactly as written. Won't brand again.
01/14/2013
This was delicious! Fabricated it as written. My husband, who is not a fan of anything with ground beefiness (unless information technology is in the course of a burger :) loved it. The kids gobbled it up, besides. This may seem obvious to some, but I'll say it since I'm non an expert and promise it helps others: taste your soup!!! Some broths and canned tomatoes take more salt than others, and depending on which brand I have found that I either needed to add together some salt or add none at all. Delicious :)
01/23/2013
Really cold hither today and then I was looking for a soup to make for dinner and wanted to utilize hamburger. This one fit the bill! I only had i lb of hamburger, the bottom of a box of barley which probably was just virtually 1/4 cup, used no water, one quart jar of home canned tomatoes, 1 tin can of beef broth (x oz) and added a fleck of Montreal steak seasoning. This is warm, hearty and filling. Thank you!
10/24/2010
Made this on a cold fall day and the familiy raved nigh it. The only this I did different was to add two potatoes and as others have said went half over again as much barley. Wonderful soup.
12/02/2009
This then good with few ingredients and things you have effectually! I used 1 cup barley and added a can of drained and rinsed mixed beans. A large striking, served with Blue Ribbon Overnight Rolls. Tin't expect for leftovers :)
12/21/2014
I of the tastiest hamburger soups that I have tried! The offset time I made it, I followed the recipe and it turned out wonderful but my married woman, who is gluten intolerant, could not eat it. I fabricated it once more substituting a wild rice/brown rice mix for the barley and it was swell! Information technology is now my goto soup on those cold winter days.
09/xv/2013
made in crockpot as other reviewer mentioned and this was delish! even my picky 15 calendar month old liked it (pureed). will certainly brand again!
05/16/2012
overall a really practiced soup with added flavoring indeed information technology needed some garlic powder and onion powder and extra minced garlic some pepper i didn't apply thyme instead i did a bay leaf and basil information technology was yummy and i upped the lycopersicon esculentum soup to ii cans and used fresh roma tomatoes cut upwardly.
10/13/2012
We love this recipe! I arrive in a tedious cooker for camping. I also add together potatoes and cauliflower cook information technology on high for vi hours than turn on low or warm depending on how tender the veggies are. A good bowl of soup after a long day of trout fishing!
12/22/2011
YUMMY! I made this on Sunday and ate it everyday for lunch.
01/09/2014
Nothing needs to be inverse for this glorious soup! I did add about half of a cubed up rootabaga and that was a squeamish bear upon. My family loves information technology.
09/28/2018
I did not measure anything. I just added until it looked good. Tasted great! Will sense of taste even better tomorrow!
01/eighteen/2012
I thought this recipe was awesome. It'due south i of the all-time soups i have e'er made. I did yet alter the recipe a chip. Instead of the fresh veggies I used frozen soup veggies. I also used a scrap more ground beefiness. Added some actress common salt, pepper, and garlic flavour per the review of others. It was still wonderful to me. My 8 year old loved it also. We had the soup with cornbread.
01/21/2011
Used nigh the same recipe from our local paper, very good. Only deviation was a agglomeration of fresh parsley rather than the dried herb and 2 bay leaves. (plus my ain addition of more minced garlic)
x/30/2011
After reading such awesome reviews, I expected more than than the bland soup that I ended up with. In the stop, I added a lot of chili powder to give it a footling flavor. I hoped my 9 year old would eat this, but there were as well many tomatoes for her to accept any involvement. I probably won't make this one again.
06/05/2018
A big favourite
09/19/2015
Big hit in our household! and it is gluten gratis (a must for u.s.).
12/15/2014
Awesomee
11/eleven/2009
Simple, wholesome meal. I served it with a little shredded cheddar cheese on top and some cornbread. Very picky husband liked it. Information technology turned out neat in crock pot on high for ii ane/2 hours.
02/20/2012
Good. Needs a chip more spice.
01/25/2016
I have been making this soup for many years, my kids loved it and and then does my married man. It freezes wonderfully. Information technology is cracking to have home made hearty soups in the freezer for those days y'all just don't have time to cook or you lot just want to give some thing to a neighbour in demand. Peachy with home made bread buns.
01/27/2016
My family loved this soup! I changed very little, only adding extra spices (more garlic, onion pulverization, and white pepper), and I used all beef broth, no water. I made the Cheddar Bay Biscuits on this site to accompany, and the meal was fabled. Information technology's so nice when you are a mom who cooks every night, and you detect a meal that's a hitting with your family. Especially when yous hear, "This is bully mom, you accept to brand this once more", and "I'm taking the leftovers for lunch tomorrow". Score! :)
02/11/2012
meh. definitely bland. not heady at all. ill just stick with vegetable beefiness stew in the hereafter.
08/15/2019
I've been using this basic recipe for years. It's filling, tastes good and is healthy. I utilise love apple juice or beefiness stock instead of h2o, add a little Worcestershire sauce and also some coarsely chopped cabbage if I have whatever on paw. Garden fresh corn and light-green beans are practiced, also. Sometimes macaroni or beans (black or kidney) instead of barley. Just add whatever you have on hand, there really is no wrong or right with this recipe.
01/04/2015
I am e'er looking for unlike things to make with barley. This was perfect. I made it every bit written and loved it. Thank you!
07/30/2018
I love this recipe!!! My girlfriend made information technology and I ate for several days. Merely a dang good recipe!!!
11/22/2009
Information technology's yummy!
12/08/2009
very versatle food, you tin make many different substitutions or add just near anything you want and it is still tasty. This is a difficult dish to screw up. I used to make something similar afterward riding snowmachines all twenty-four hours and it is hearty food, serve with some type of bread and you accept a meal. For a little extra flavor I similar to add nuance of worcestershire sauce and / or A1 sauce.
01/30/2016
This a groovy wintertime soup. I did make a couple of additions though. I increase the amount of vegetables, added a bit of minced chillies and chopped bacon which I sautéed with the meat. I also cooked the vegetables with the meat before adding the tomatoes, broth and soup. I garnished the soup with shredded cheese. ( I judge y'all could now call it hearty bacon cheeseburger soup!)
02/17/2019
I fabricated the recipe exactly every bit written but left out the can of tomato soup. The soup was wonderful. I will make this once again.
04/04/2013
I used italian sausage in this recipe making the soup gustation phenomenal! I will be making this more than oftentimes with the meat change. Nosotros left everything else the aforementioned. Cooked and drained onion, garlic, and italian sausage then threw in the crockpot on high for 2 hrs, low for about 3.
03/22/2016
This was good merely non swell. It was easy to brand. Just it did non have a hearty flavor as I had expected. The flavour of the ground beef was barely noticeable. I may make it again just I would look for other recipes first.
01/23/2015
Keep making this soup, over and over once again. I follow the recipe but I also add together trivial red potatoes cut in half...so delicious. Dear it!
04/07/2014
This is my "go to" recipe when I desire homemade soup. I've made this as written and also with my own variations with what I had on hand and it's always good. My favorite variation is to add together a diced green pepper, rice and an extra can of tomatoes.
04/07/2012
very yummy soup..... :) A MUST Effort!!!
02/fourteen/2015
I can't imagine using water in a soup when you tin enhance the flavour with broth, so I made a change there. I also don't e'er utilise canned soups and so I subbed that with a jar of home-made love apple sauce. I was feeding a crowd and then I batched upwards times two. Worked out well. Likewise learned that pot barley works well in soup. I usually use pearl just pot barley was all I could find. Glad I institute this recipe. Really dainty on a cold day. Thanks SHARILEE.
10/fourteen/2009
What a dandy recipe! I followed the recipe exactly, except I didn't have whatever thyme. It was soo skillful. This is a keeper and thanks for posting.
